Summary: To comply with changing phone carrier policies, Artera is managing registration for A2P 10DLC Messaging.
Major phone carriers are taking action to help reduce the number of unwanted solicitation reaching their customers. This is a positive trend for consumers, but requires that businesses take additional steps to verify themselves as a legitimate source of messages.
This process initially began in early 2021 and will go into effect August 31, 2023. Artera has taken the necessary steps to ensure that our customers are compliant with these changes.
What is A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC stands for Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code. It is the new standard for businesses text-enabling phone numbers to message patients. 10DLC numbers support higher message volumes and better deliverability when compared to standard long codes. These numbers are intended for businesses, which may cause issues with some phone carriers unless verified.
Major phone carriers are beginning to restrict solicitations and other commercial messages to better protect their customers. To ensure that patient messages are not viewed as spam, your organization needs to be registered with The Campaign Registry, a channel that works with phone carriers to verify message sources.
Registering your organization is a preventative measure against these new carrier restrictions. It is very important that we are able to add you to the registry as soon as possible to prevent an increase in message failures in the future.
The Artera team is doing this on behalf of your team so you can focus on creating great patient experiences.
Why this Matters to You
Unregistered numbers will not be able to send any messages and will display an error. Numbers hosted or purchased within the last 30 days may have lower deliverability rates due to delays in A2P onboarding across the industry.
As this is an industry-wide regulation, there may be an impact in deliverability of outbound messages. A delay of up to 10-business days can be expected while A2P registration is pending.
Lines that are not yet registered at this time will incur fines and filtering of their messages.
Why do I need to provide my W9?
In order to register you in The Campaign Registry, we are required to provide your EIN to verify your business. Verified businesses will receive a higher trust score, making it much less likely that your messages will be blocked by carriers as they increase their commercial restrictions.
What is SHAKEN/STIR?
SHAKEN/STIR is a new protocol designed to prevent robocalls and auto-dialers from harassing consumers. To prevent legitimate business communications from being blocked by these new regulations, SHAKEN/STIR verifies a caller’s identity before allowing the call to pass to the recipient.
What do I need to do about SHAKEN/STIR?
To ensure that your automated calls are not falsely identified as robocalls, we will be registering your business on your behalf. *Note that SHAKEN/STIR only applies to VOIP numbers.
